The Invitation:

The symbols of royalty and rebirth are interesting and appear to be universal.

And, staying at residence in Carnelian? A Hotel in Muscat, Oman? Carnelian Bay, California? A Private Residence?
Where the heck is Carnelian?

Carnelian is a semiprecious stone. If you believe in the power of crystals, then Carnelian is a stabilising stone which restores vitality and motivation, and stimulates creativity. It gives courage, promotes positive life choices, dispels apathy and motivates for success. Carnelian is useful for overcoming abuse of any kind. It helps in trusting yourself and your perceptions.

Whatever the case, the seal is fascinating and beautiful.

Since things are slow in the shop I decide to get my hands on a large Carnelian stone and carve it to make a copy of the stamp crest. I'll give it to Ms. Chan as a gift for her hospitality.
But... What is it about this invitation? The more I handle it, the less it feels like a portal.
Yet... It feels more, real? More substantial?

Returning from the field trip to Elysium I go straight to my Onyx Chamber. "Zou Yan... Hi Honey, I'm home.” I strip off the excess accoutrements I wore to Elysium and pack them away: My leather jacket, boots and dirk. To the house AI, “Please give me a fifteen minute notification for dinner. Oh, and please have the first two Roger Zelazny novels returned to the Library." I feel a slight pang of discomfort at having servants and I haven’t got a clue as to what to do about having a Personal Assistant, so I’ve created an artificial friendship with the Artificial Intelligence that appears to run the household. Let me tell you about the day I stepped into a fantasy world:

Last night I left my dogs with my parents at their house in Forest Hill. I had a nice dinner with them but I wasn’t able to give them much information about where I was going for the next week or two beyond what was written in the invitation and what I had gleaned from the sparse information available on the internet. As far as I knew, I was invited to a trade show in Los Angeles, California, U.S.A. as a guest of the Mizzurian Company. I can only guess that I may have impressed one of our many clients at the shop and word got back to Hollywood. I promised to call from L.A. as soon as I got settled there and knew more about my situation.
